Established in 1971, Chinese Fellowship Chinese School is Melbourne’s first weekend Chinese language school, recognised and funded by the Victorian education department. For more than 50 years, we have helped students develop their understanding and use of Chinese while passing on Chinese culture.
Over the years, the school has taken part in cultural and educational activities organised by Australian government bodies and Chinese community organisations, supporting Chinese cultural heritage and multicultural exchange. It provides a place for children of Chinese heritage and anyone interested in Chinese culture to learn and grow together. The school has also received government awards and contributed to Chinese teaching resources for use in Australia, including VCE resource kits and Chinese pinyin examples, earning recognition from government and the Chinese community.
With five campuses across Melbourne, we offer preschool, primary, secondary and VCE Chinese classes. We welcome students from different language backgrounds and everyone with an interest in Chinese culture.
Our Courses
Small classes and support in Chinese and English help students steadily develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, explore Chinese culture and communicate with confidence.
We use Chinese textbooks designed for overseas learners, alongside teacher-developed and selected materials, festivals and cultural activities, to support students from different language backgrounds.
Preschool Chinese
Who it is for: Preschool children discovering Chinese, building an interest in the language or continuing to develop listening and speaking skills.
What students learn: Songs, stories, games and activities build interest in listening and speaking Chinese.

What students learn: Develop pinyin, commonly used characters and everyday communication, progressing to reading and writing.

- Structured learning: From foundation classes through Year 10 and VCE Chinese, language and cultural learning help students develop their skills step by step.
- Flexible materials: Textbooks for overseas Chinese learners are complemented by materials developed or selected by our teachers for classroom use.
- Responsive teaching: Flexible teaching approaches guide and encourage students from different language backgrounds.
- Cultural experiences: Festival performances, Chinese painting, calligraphy, tai chi and music encourage an interest in learning.
- Listening, speaking, reading and writing: Pinyin and 750 commonly used characters help build the foundations of listening, speaking, reading and writing for practical communication.
- Bilingual support: Our experienced teachers use Chinese and English to support children on their Chinese learning journey.
Our Achievements
- VCE achievement: Multiple students have achieved outstanding VCE Chinese study scores of 50 and 49.
- Competition awards: Students have received both team and individual awards in Chinese language competitions.
- Community service: Serving the Chinese community for more than 50 years and earning the trust of generations of parents.
